Fort Wilkins State Park, Historic Fort Tour, Copper Harbor Michigan - Where History Comes Alive

At Fort Wilkins State Park, we take you on a tour of the historic Fort Wilkins in Copper Harbor Michigan. The fort was garrisoned from 1844 until the troops were needed for the Mexican-American War in 1847. When the troops were all sent south, only one man Sgt. William Wright was left to care for the fort till he died in 1855. Then the fort was leased to a local doctor for a medical facility which never opened till the doctor passed away in 1861. The fort was garrisoned again after American Civil War from 1867 to 1870 basically because the government was needing places to send troops to serve the remainder of their service after the civil war.

Fort Wilkins Historic State Park has 700 acres in total including the fort, campgrounds, and day-use facilities as well as the Copper Harbor Lighthouse which is accessible to visitors only by boat.

The sound track to this video is "The March" by my daughter Aspen Jacobsen. It is from her first Americana folk-pop album 'Aspen' released in 2018. Please subscribe and select the notification bell for our channel to be notified when we publish our next 4k folk pop music video.
